“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

(John 3:16–17)

God’s journey to humans cannot be easily comprehended and expressed in words. We, humans, have no idea about the chasm between God and humans. Without knowing the difference and distance, it is impossible to know the difficulty of the journey, the sacrifices made, and the risks taken. What we know about God is through the Scriptures, nature, and especially through Jesus, the Son of God. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews writes, “Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the world. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word” (1:1–3). Jesus, the Son of God, himself reveals about it saying, “No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known” (John 1:18).

Applying the rule “Known to the Unknown”, let’s ponder over the love of God through the human love where we see royals giving up their chair, their right to marry people much lower their status. Love is the most powerful weapon the world knows. It can make us both weak and strong. It can be the reason we need to sacrifice it all. Where love is involved sacrifice becomes much easier, even one’s own life, for that matter. Several royals throughout history have done exactly that: given up the most powerful seat in a nation of millions, simply for the love of their subjects with whom they fell in love.
